Scott Gailey is a Canadian electronic musician and producer who records under the alias Hotspring. His work explores the intersections of ambient, experimental, and downtempo electronic music, often marked by rich textures, improvisation, and a cinematic mood.
In September 2020, Gailey released his debut full-length album Obit for Sunshade on the Vancouver-based label Mood Hut. The eight-track record blends ambient atmospheres, dub influences, and noir-like electronic elements with subtle jazz and downtempo undertones, establishing Hotspring’s distinct sonic identity.
Following this debut, Hotspring returned to Mood Hut with Apodelia, a further evolution of his sound. Improvised at night and refined in post-production, the album evokes dreamlike, nostalgic moods and continues Gailey’s exploration of experimental composition, lo-fi fidelities, and emotional nuance. Tracks like “Blood,” “Three of Swords,” and “Glanzstrasse 6” drift through hazy guitar mirages, somnambulant rhythms, and broken piano loops reminiscent of artists like William Basinski.
In addition to his solo work, Gailey has also released music under his own name and in collaboration with other artists, continuing to push the boundaries of ambient and experimental music through a deeply personal and exploratory approach.
